Listed below are some questions you may have:
Do I qualify?
In order to qualify, you must:
- Be presently employed full time (30+ hours/week)
- Have worked for your current organization for a minimum of one year
- Have a supervisor who is willing to complete a short online survey
- Identify two coworkers who match the descriptions given below and
who are willing to complete a short online survey
What is this study about?
This study is about informal relationships at work. It addresses questions
about how, when, and why certain types of relationships form at work,
and what outcomes those relationships lead to.
More specifically, we are interested in the relationships that form
between insiders and newcomers to an organization. Insiders are established
employees who have been with the organization for more than one year,
and newcomers are employees who have been with the organization for less
than one year.
What are the specifics of the coworkers that I have to identify?
You will be asked to identify and provide the contact information for
two coworkers that best match the definitions below. These coworkers
must be newcomers to your organization (less than
one year with the organization) and be someone that you have worked
with on a task, project, or team. They must also be willing
to complete a short survey.
One of the two coworkers you select
needs to fit the following description:
A newcomer who will clearly be a top performer in the organization. This
employee is described as having what it takes to go far in your organization,
and as someone who will quickly climb up the promotion ladder. This
employee also is on the fast track to becoming a top
performer, and will clearly make a significant contribution to your
organization.
The other coworker you select needs to fit the following
description:
A newcomer who needs some help and refinement to be a top performer
in the organization. This employee is described as someone
who is a “work in progress,” yet possesses untapped potential. This
employee could succeed with some assistance, and might pay off for
the organization.
Do you know two different new coworkers that fit these
descriptions? Are you still interested in earning the $15?
